Gewan has been crowned the Champion two-year-old in Europe topping the table with a rating of 121. He was also awarded the honours of Timeform’s Champion Juvenile Colt at their 2025 Flat season awards earning a top rating of 118 at the end of last week.
Gewan won three of his four starts last year, breaking his maiden on debut in a novice at Newbury in July. He followed this with a victory in the Gr.3 Acomb Stakes at York beating Italy (Wootton Bassett) and Distant Storm (Night Of Thunder). Even though the Gr.2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster did not go as planned for him, Gewan came back in full force for the Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October. Once he got to the front two furlongs out there was no catching up for the others and he went on to win by three quarters of a length, beating Gstaad (Starspangledbanner), Distant Storm (Night Of Thunder) and Zavateri (Without Parole).
He has wintered well at Andrew Balding’s yard and all roads lead to the 2000 Guineas now for the son of last year’s champion sire Night Of Thunder. He will be racing in Ace Stud’s new racing silks going forward having transferred ownership at the start of the new year.
