John and Thady Gosden’s Superior Choice earned his third victory on the spin in yesterday evening’s Listed EBF Glasgow Stakes over 1m3f at Hamilton.
The son of Dubawi settled towards the rear and began to make ground down the outside at the top of the straight. He breezed into contention at the two-furlong pole and was well on top inside the final furlong, with Shane Foley content that victory was assured close to the line. Fillies filled the podium places, with Andrew Balding’s Prizeland (Territories) a length and three quarters behind in second and James Fanshawe’s Plaid (Ghaiyyath) a further length and a quarter adrift in third.
Fourth on his only start as a juvenile at Newmarket last October, Superior Choice opened his account by two lengths at Leicester in April before winning a 1m2f novice at the Newmarket July course last month. This was a maiden Stakes victory for the threeyear-old, who holds an entry in next month’s Gr.2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.
Bred by Lordship Stud, the colt was a 1,100,000gns purchase by Yulong from Watership Down Stud at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and is now owned by Ace Stud. He is the first foal out of the Gr.1 Prix de Royallieu heroine Loving Dream (Gleneagles), who is a half-sister to the US Gr.2 winner and dual Gr.1-placed Legend Of Time (Sea The Stars) and the Listed winner and Gr.1 American Oaks-placed Amandine (Shamardal). The second dam Kissable (Danehill Dancer) also prevailed at Listed level and was placed third in the Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at two.
