Double Rush wins on Guineas Weekend

Double Rush (Blue Point) who romped to a course-and-distance handicap triumph at the Craven meeting here last month, raced under a tight rein in a prominent third through halfway in this Heritage Handicap. Bounding forward to seize control approaching the furlong pole, the 4-6 favourite stormed up the hill to easily outpoint Addison Grey (Havana Grey) by 2 1/4 lengths.

“He is a high-class horse, that was a smooth run and I enjoyed watching that,” reflected Andrew Balding. “It was much the plan to come here after he won here last time. It was an early closing race, we were well in and it’s an important meeting to have winners at. The field cut up a bit, but we were thrilled with the way he did it and we could look at a Group race now. He will probably have an entry for the Wokingham [Handicap at Royal Ascot] and we’ll see what the handicapper does on Tuesday.”

Double Rush is the fifth of six foals and one of four scorers out of a full-sister to Gr.3 Prix Penelope victrix Humouresque (Pivotal) and multiple Group-placed sire Mighty (Pivotal).

His dam Duet (Pivotal) is also kin to the multiple Group-winning Danehurst (Danehill) and Gr.3 Generous Stakes runner-up Rising Legend (Rock Of Gibraltar).
